Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Practical sports exercises are compulsory in all sports science degree programmes. Teaching in the social sciences, educational sciences and humanities is offered for all degree programmes on at least an optional basis. Online teaching methods based on the Moodle system have been available in many fields for years.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

As part of the master's degree programme in sports science, an internal research internship and an external career-related internship are compulsory. The course content is based on the latest theories and concepts from sports science and adjacent disciplines (esp. medicine and neuroscience).

Special sports hall with scientific devices (positioning system tracking devices, SpeedCourt); Second laboratory sports hall for training in individual sports as well as with installed strength measuring stations, special laboratories for sports engineers, health and rehabilitation sports and focus on cognition and movement (TMS, tDCS); Shared use of MRI; Beach volleyball facility; Joint use of the modern Elbe swimming pool and other municipal sports facilities (including the SCM track & field stadium) and private sports providers (sport centres for fitness and health); University-owned water sports facility.

Special features regarding research activities

Inter-faculty natural science and medical specialisation of the chairs; close research cooperation with for-profit (sports article industry) and not-for-profit organisations (e.g. sports associations, societies) in the sports and health system (e.g. rehabilitation clinics, health promotion in companies, therapy institutions), without disregarding education and social science implications (e.g. participation of the institute in the sports teacher training). Students and teaching staff are organised in the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 1436 (sub-project C01).

Special technical research labs and computer cubicles for the Sport and Technology degree course (e.g. for kinematics and kinetics); Teaching and learning laboratory to test/apply methodological knowledge at sport- and movement-specific measuring stations; Research laboratories for sports medicine and rehabilitation (MTT, isokinetics, hypoxia laboratory, medical performance diagnostics); For practical sports training, an annual alpine ski camp in Kappel/Tyrol and a summer camp for popular and outdoor sports in the Alps is organised and integrated into teaching.
