Special features regarding teaching

The degree courses have a strong orientation towards Care Management and Health Studies. In the course of this, a connection to international and national discourses in Nursing Science is sought as well as the examination of current issues in national nursing practice. In the areas of project work and self-organised learning in particular, connections to nursing practice are systematically established in order to better identify and further develop problems and concepts of care provision. Empirical approaches are highly involved in this.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty focuses on a concept for internationalisation. International networking is predominantly created through research and the programmes of a summer school or winter school with foreign partner universities. The students are systematically included in these activities. In the Nursing courses, a strong sense of "internationalisation at home" is promoted. In almost all modules, international knowledge and international concepts/projects, etc. are incorporated into the teaching.

Special features regarding the equipment

All lecture rooms are modern and equipped with multimedia. Not only the lecturers, but also the students can use the supplementary technical support for teaching at any time. In addition, there are three computer rooms and other learning units. Teachers and students have access to a virtual teaching and learning platform Teachers and students have access to extensive databases as well as a high proportion of electronically available literature in the university library.

Special features regarding research and development

Nursing has the highest rate of competitively acquired external funding in the university. The projects are funded by the BMBF, the BMG and by state and foundation funds, among others. The focus is on the development and evaluation of interventions to improve the care situation of people in need of care in nursing practice, as well as on the conditions of work of nurses, the securing of skilled labour, and structures, reforms and effects of nursing education. We make sure that research and teaching are linked and integrate students into ongoing research projects.

Other special features

The faculty has very good links with regional industry. On the one hand, there is a regular semester meeting in the institution with representatives from industry and university; on the other a number of practitioners work as assistant professors at the university. The professors of the faculty regularly and systematically visit industry institutions in the region. It is also important for us to cooperate closely with institutions of education, further education and training within the framework of research projects, student projects and the practical study semester.
