Special features regarding teaching

Balanced between practice and sound theory, practical and field exercises, supervised and quality assured; constant feedback from practice, small groups, good supervision ratio. Direct contact with lecturers, e.g. with individual course guidance. Extra-curricular studies. Regional cooperation partners (in teaching and research) with written agreements. Location advantages of a small institute: pronounced proximity to students, short distances, clear profile formation in geoecology and sustainable development.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Uni Bozen, Italien; Uni Insbruck, Österreich; Uni Klagenfurt, Österreich; Uni Poznan, Polen; Uni Salzburg, Österreich; Uni Sassari, Italien

Special features regarding the equipment

Since 2008, and since the reorganisation of the Institute, three key areas may be noted: the expansion into modern physical/geographical field equipment (soil/sediments/water/air), the establishment of a geo-ecological lab setup (soil/water analytics), and the establishment of GIS workstations. Lab equipment and usage is shared in a cost-efficient manner with Chemistry and Biology. Good central infrastructure; teaching-related IT offers (LearnWeb, forums); 181 computer workstations are available for students, 24 hours a day; multimedia rooms, video conference rooms.

Special features regarding research activities

Human influenced landscape research forms the focal point. Taking a holistic view, the focus is on landscape factors with a pronounced anthropogenic character and the interaction complex of causes, dimension and consequences of such landscape development. The methodical area of focus is the application of GIS to supplement accurate qualitative geostatistical statements with quantitative areal statements.

Support for founders

Orientation start-up week (in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week); acquisition of an additional certificate "organisational design, innovation and foundation"; relevant courses already as part of the degree programme:
