Special features regarding teaching

Takes place according to the Approbationsordnung für Apotheker (AAppO). The degree course is not modularised, but is completed with state examinations.

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are postgraduate exchanges with renowned universities in USA, Australia, Sweden, Italy, and China. In addition, international postgraduate exchanges are made possible in the course of the ERASMUS programme. There are visiting professorships for colleagues from abroad, as well as visiting professorships of Jena pharmacy professors abroad (e.g. Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA).

Special features regarding the equipment

Clean room for sterile work or production of drugs; Nanotechnology; access to state-of-the-art bioanalytical or cellular-biological methods/equipment, also for use for student teaching (fluorescence microscope, UPLC-TripleQuadrupole mass spectrometer, flow cytometer, capillary electrophoresis). Access to equipment within the Jena Centre for Soft Matter.

Special features regarding research activities

Pharmacy in Jena is characterised by a high level of third-party funding, especially DFG funding, and a very high per-capita publication output of the professors. There is intensive embedding in coordinated research networks: SFB1127 "ChemBioSys", SFB1278 "Polytarget", DFG Research Group 1406, DFG Research Training Group 1715, International Leibniz Research School Microbial Interactions (ILRS); Excellence Graduate School Jena School for Microbial Communication. Nationally unique expertise in lipidomics and research in "gender pharmacy".

To support the founding of companies, there are specific programmes of the Service and Transfer Centre of the university, which are used in practice.
