The technical equipment includes: Test networks (with PCs, routers, switches, firewalls) to test operations and optimisation of networks; forensic workstations; laboratory for IT organisation & management makes the theory of IT service management tangible; mobile media & communication lab to acquire skills in usability, design and Computer Science; open source-based Red Pitaya platform for system implementations as part of final theses; audio-visual production studio.

Special features regarding research and development

Various research institutes and projects, including: - IT security awareness / gamification and Smart Home / Smart Living - "Gym Room" in virtual reality; Project GHOST prepares companies for all types and sizes of cyber-attacks; research projects on user-centred solutions and Usability Engineering and Wearables - Development of solutions in the field of (electric) mobility - Innovations for retail through the integration of new technologies; IT forensics workshop with LKA NRW, Cellebrite, KPMG, BKA.

Various activities and programmes support students in matters of start-ups, such as: TRACE programme: Cooperation of the FH and RWTH Aachen with AC.E e.V. for the support of students looking to set up a company - EXIST start-up grant; lecture series, business seminar: Experienced professionals answer individual questions from students starting up companies - Transfer Office & Career Service provide support for students looking to set up a company - PatentScout: Students have the chance to confidentially talk to patent agents about the best way to implement their projects.

Other special features

The students can determine their main focus on elective subjects, because there are only elective subjects in the main course; the technology location Aachen enables numerous cooperations with local and national start-ups, companies, research institutions and the RWTH Aachen; the location in the border triangle DE-NL-BE predestines the FH Aachen for cross-border cooperation; the students are well qualified to help shape the digital transformation - in established companies, start-ups or as entrepreneurs.
