Special features regarding teaching

The Biology department (except for the teaching qualification) uses student- and examination-friendly block modules. In addition, very broad-based teaching is offered with an extensive range of optional modules both related to the subject and outside of the subject. There is individual supervision with a variety of guidance and support services. The Hermann-Hoffmann Academy promotes the training concept of "Learning through Teaching". Three of four degree courses are offered in cooperation with other departments or Universities to increase the interdisciplinary approach.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In addition to a joint English-language course with University College Dublin (M.Sc. Global Change), there are many international exchange opportunities. There is a wide range of English language modules in the M.Sc. degree courses.

Special features regarding research activities

Several professors of the faculty are members of the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology, Department of Applied Ecology and Bioresources, in Gießen. The faculty has also appointed professorships jointly with the Paul Ehrlich Institute and the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim.
