Special features regarding teaching

The faculty has internally defined a total of 5 teaching-related projects (digitalisation, practical year, scientific, communication and interprofessionality) as part of the UMG 2026 strategy process. The Office of the Dean of Studies maintains a very close and regular exchange with the student councils. Students are represented in all working groups and committees of the faculty with an appropriate number of votes. The faculty attaches great importance to involving students and giving them a say in conceptual and content-related curricular adjustments and/or changes.

Arrangements of special exercises at the department

In the LLZ (Teaching and Learning Centre), 9 self-study rooms are available to students for study groups or individual exam preparation. In the LLZ, there is an extensive textbook collection, (TV) microscopes and preparations, as well as anatomical models. The LLZ regularly offers more than 60 optional courses per semester.

Special features regarding research activities

UMG research focuses on community medicine, molecular medicine and individualized medicine. Currently combined topics which are particularly visible are "Infection and Inflammation", "Cardiovascular Diseases" as well as "Abdominal and Metabolic Diseases". Other focus areas are neuroscience and oncology. Through the targeted interweaving of population-related health research with the elucidation of health-relevant mechanisms at the level of the individual, research at the UMG provides valuable impulses for the improvement of medical care.

Other special features

The faculty has provided space for students to set up a learning café. The place is available to students from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. as a place of learning, exchange and as a meeting place for student initiatives. A considerable amount of money is spent annually on the departments through the performance-oriented allocation of funds. In addition to the evaluation results, the LOM concept also takes into account innovative teaching projects and special commitment to teaching. This provides a positive incentive for the optimisation and further development of teaching.
