Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

The method of teaching is highly practical and patient-oriented. At the beginning of their studies students receive practical training at model workstations, before working with patients in treatment course rooms. From the ninth study semester, students have the option of completing practical training at one of our partner practices. MITZ offers practical clinical training with a focus on communicating with dental patients. The training is curriculum-based and becomes more complex as the programme progresses.

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are numerous opportunities to gain international experience within an Erasmus semester at one of the partner universities. High-performing students are given the opportunity to participate in the exchange programme with the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.

Special features regarding the equipment

Students learn at well-equipped simulation workstations, which can also be used during independent training hours. The clinical treatment course rooms have state-of-the-art equipment, including the intraoral scanner and the CAD/CAM production of dentures. Students and teachers have free access to the AMBOSS knowledge database.

Special features regarding research activities

Funded by third parties (DFG, BMBF), the research focus of the department is on innovative medical technology in dental and oral orthodontics, bioadhesion processes in the oral cavity, biochemistry and microbiology of the oral cavity, regenerative strategies in dental and oral orthodontics, health care research, clinical studies, materials research.

Other special features

Students benefit from numerous advisory services, including those related to the course of study and options for compensating for disadvantages in exams. There are many opportunities for students to participate in projects, e.g. Health4Future, the German Alliance on Climate Change and Health (KLUG).
