Special features regarding teaching

Balanced programme of technical and economic areas and integrative subjects. Specialisation for the Bachelor’s to be selected from three areas: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The degree programme is also characterised by its distinct practical orientation, which is provided through a professionally qualifying and compulsory work placement as well as partnerships with companies. In addition, key and cross-cultural skills are taught. New didactic concepts are conveyed to students. The degree course is nationally and internationally oriented.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department offers two English-language Master's degree programmes and has a wide range of English-language courses in advanced Bachelor's programmes. This encourages the vigorous exchange between German and international students as well as internationalism at home and prepares our outgoing students for their own semesters abroad. Incoming and outgoing students alike are supported and actively supervised by the internationalism team at the department. The local curricula explicitly favour the recognition of credits earned abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

With the Innovative Learning Lab, the department has set up a seminar room, equipped with flexible furnishings and extensive presentation technology, enabling the use of creative, multimedia teaching/learning methods and concepts. Access to special software is provided in 4, partially air-conditioned PC clusters with 115 workstations. Students of engineering subjects also have access to the equipment of the respective faculty (e.g. technical laboratories, electrical and material science components for experimental set-ups or workshops).

Special features regarding research activities

Faculty members are integrated into the Research Centre for Information Technology Design (ITeG) and the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER-Kassel). In addition, there are personnel connections through double mandates.

Support for founders

The Kassel University is an entrepreneurs' university subsidised by EXIST funds. Teaching and support of start-ups is seen as an interdisciplinary task and supported, both in personnel and organisational terms, by the research and teaching centre on entrepreneurial thinking and action. Six subject areas of the department are active in the start-up research and teaching.

Other special features

The Faculty has established a joint guidance and coordination concept for all its degree courses. The profile formation of each WING student is supported in the technical area through the study progress plan and a personal consultation. A WING mailing list informs everyone about current topics. It also provides a wide range of WING-specific job postings or additional professionally qualifying services. Info sessions take place regularly. On the WING website, students have access to all materials, accompanied by an FAQ section.
