Special features regarding teaching

MA: Competence in research, management and methods, broad elective area, basic qualification for further therapeutic training. B.A.: Continuous, integrated practical relevance; Experimental and innovative teaching and learning through innovative methods and didactics; Specialisation in Legal Application Skills; Early involvement of students in a teaching and support tasks (tutorials, mentoring and coaching); The guiding principles are interdisciplinarity, cross-culturality, gender sensitivity, diversity and inclusivity.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Full recognition of practice semesters abroad (4th study semester), theory semesters abroad (usually in the 5th study semester), short-term mobility (summer school, winter school) and the e-learning modules taught in English (maximum 4, maximum 40 ECTS) completed as part of the Social Work Virtual Campus (VirCamp). “International Skills” certificate issued at the end of the course if elements of internationalisation have been integrated into studies.

Very good technical equipment in the creative and media education area (SLR cameras, compact cameras, video cameras, mini DVD cameras, HD cameras, web cameras, digital sound recording devices, PC headsets, laptops, touchpads, creative media and materials), computer workstations licensed software (besides the usual also SPSS and MAXQDA), cutting room with video editing system, continuous equipment of the seminar rooms with projector technology, interactive whiteboard, rooms that can be completely darkened for the implementation of specific media projects.

Special features regarding research activities

Broadly diversified research focus areas over the entire lifespan/predominantly in interdisciplinary collaborative research with (non-)university partners/mostly funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, among others. Current third-party funded projects: Development of an analogue and digital space for adults with sex. Experiences of violence (SHELTER), research into psychosocial stress in families with long COVID-19 in children (COCiD), prevention and care research in the elderly (prevention project "PromeTheus, Cooperative Care and Daily Life Planning in Nursing Counselling"- KoPlan). Much publication activity.

Joint courses with the Faculty of Design and Communication Design and the Faculty of Computer Science. Cross-faculty offers (transfer services to the entire university): Interdisciplinary teaching / learning project: Prospective engineers, computer scientists, social workers and designers formed interdisciplinary teams as an opportunity to gain experience in interdisciplinary project work, to develop communication skills in an application-oriented manner and to assume responsibility in a team (Kompass); Threat and conflict management (BEKOM)
