Exchange universities for stay abroads

Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, Österreich; Universität Wien, Österreich; Universität Zürich, Schweiz; Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Schweiz; Kobenhavns Universitet, Dänemark; Université des Paris-Sud (Paris XI), Frankreich; Université Joseph Fourier Grenoble I, Frankreich; Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, Niederlande; Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spanien; Trinity College Dublin, Irland

Special features regarding the equipment

State-of-the-art laboratories and clean rooms; numerous unique large-scale facilities for research; participation in national and international major research installations (synchrotron radiation sources, Cherenkov telescope, ATLAS at the LHC/CERN, IceCube neutrino detector at the South Pole); high-performance and user-oriented workshops (mechanics, electronics); comprehensive computing centres; state-of-the-art library services.

Special features regarding research activities

Participation in national and international major research installations (synchrotron radiation sources, Cherenkov telescope, ATLAS at the LHC/CERN, IceCube neutrino detector at the South Pole); networking of science and research (university and non-university), companies, media on the Adlershof Campus; highly popular location for visiting academics from Germany and abroad (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation); high proportion of inter-disciplinary research (Physics-Mathematics, Physics-Chemistry, Physics-Biology, Integrative Research Institute for the Sciences IRIS Adlershof).

Support for founders

The Institute of Physics explicitly supports start-ups. Start-up teams, which are supported by the BMWi's Exist programme, for example, use office and laboratory space at the Institute. Companies already founded out of the Institute of Physics also use laboratory space on the basis of corresponding contracts.

Other special features

The institute runs its own school student lab for different target groups: School pupil society of HU Physics (promotion of gifted students), regular projects for school classes, teacher training; further education of teachers, public outreach ("Long Night of the Sciences"); Club Lise Network, the mentoring programme for students with a migration background for the promotion of Natural Science and Engineering interests at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin; many student assistantships in all areas of the institute
