Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Cultural studies focus on "literature and knowledge", proximity and synergies with other specialist degree courses (European Culture and History of Ideas (EUKLID), Science Communication, in future LAS); Annually changing focus topics (medieval studies: "Oriental perception and oriental constructions"; "Beginnings"); Research-led courses from current project contexts on a regular basis, also in the BA; Regular guest lectures and lecture series (some also hybrid in cross-university organisation); Proximity and cooperation with cultural institutions and media companies relevant to professional practice

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Exclusive MA courses and advanced seminars for the MA without polyvalent overlaps with BA degree courses; Specially designed master classes on the theme of the year; Master classes with external lecturers (e.g. modern German literature in summer semester 2022: The "sacred" as a religious phenomenon and problem); Teaching collaboration with Polish colleagues from KWU Bydgoszcz, spring school "German-Polish culture of remembrance in the media" April 2022; Annual "Karlsruhe Medieval Colloquium" and annual "Inter-university Advanced Seminar" with the participation of six medieval locations for the promotion of young researchers and academic exchange

Special features regarding the international orientation

Promoting student mobility and stays abroad through close links with Erasmus+ and courses at universities abroad in the EUCOR network; Stays abroad also with the support of the International Students Office (IStO). EPICUR initiative for a "European Studies" joint programme with the participation of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences as part of the EPICUR alliance for the development of a cross-university Master's programme is under development. Initial cooperation UFA/DFH (German-French Universities); Expansion of other specific German-French workshops for young researchers under development

Literature and Knowledge specialisation; Two German Research Foundation (DFG) projects in medieval studies (completed in 2024 "Encyclopaedic Storytelling", new edition "Barlaam and Josaphat"; Prof. Herweg); Various HEIKA projects (institutionally established HEidelberg/KArlsruhe collaborations); Institutionalised links with the research projects of the writing laboratory (currently several projects related to AI issues in scientific writing processes)
