Special features regarding teaching

Tutorials and an intensive preparatory course are offered during the initial phase of the degree course. During the programme of studies, emphasis is placed on combining generalised and specialised educational training as a main subject, integrating fundamental questions in education, activity-based perspectives and references to research methodologies. The content of research, derived from individual areas of work, is transferred to and applied in the field of instruction. To give students an opportunity to actively engage with the topics involved, the bulk of teaching is offered in seminar form.

Special features regarding the equipment

A sound studio, computer pool and video research laboratory are available.

Special features regarding research activities

Lecturers are active in various research projects in which students are explicitly involved. On the day of the research, students can inform themselves about the research activities and discuss them themselves. They can also participate in lectures and conferences. Instructors are involved in the main research areas of the University such as ‘Society and Culture in Movement’, ‘Enlightenment - Religion - Knowledge’ and, for example, in the Centre for School and Educational Research and work together with the German Youth Institute or the Federal Centre for Political Education.

Other special features

The institute works closely with the Francke Foundations and the cultural institutions of the City of Halle (Saale) and organises events, for example. It also maintains close contacts with a variety of facilities in practical education, and with clubs and associations in the city. Through the alumni association, this cooperation/networking in the region continues beyond the degree programme, and older generations of graduates in education can help socialize their younger counterparts in the practicalities of fields of work.
