Special features regarding teaching

One-year orientation phase with identical teaching content and change option in the Bachelor's degree courses in Biochemistry, Chemistry and Polymer and Colloid Chemistry; research-oriented focus on macromolecule and colloid research, new materials and catalysis and molecular biosciences; close interlocking between lectures and practicals; optional industrial placements and internships abroad; strong practical relevance through industrial contacts. In addition to state examinations, the teaching qualification in a model course of study leads to B.Sc. and M.Ed. Degrees with practical relevance.

Special features regarding the international orientation

International partner universities: Contacts to leading universities through highly acclaimed and well-networked university teachers (e.g. Cornell University, ETH Zurich, University of York, University of Stockholm, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Paris, University of Strasbourg, Chinese Academy of Science Beijing, Zhejiang University Hangzhou). DAAD: Thematic network for student exchange with the Universities of Melbourne and Monash in Australia. Active participation in the Bavarian networks of BayChina and BayInd.

Special features regarding the equipment

Interdisciplinary central facilities with the best equipment: largest university NMR centre for measuring solids and liquids (8 high-field spectrometers for liquid NMR and 4 solid-state NMR spectrometers; fields between 300 MHz and 1 GHz); scanning and (cryo)transmission EM; best AFM equipment in Europe; Institute for Macromolecule Research, Centre for Colloids and Interfaces; BioMed Tec: Protein crystallography; fast kinetics; central analysis services (NMR, MS and HPLC-MS).

Support for founders

Business Plan Competitions; International Business Plan Competition (Master's event); 5-Euro-Business; Bayreuth Hospitation; Entrepreneurial Thinking & Business Design (Master's event); Seminar Series of the Startup Advisory Service; Startup Stories; Startup Day; Social Entrepreneurship Camp & Social Entrepreneurship Seminar.

Other special features

Strong interdisciplinary cooperation of chemistry with biologists, mathematicians, physicists and engineers within the university; further development through profile fields of high-pressure and high-temperature research, polymer and colloid research, new materials, molecular biosciences and energy research and energy technology; close interlocking with subject didactics; student laboratories; trial study; lab for kids; student days; cooperation with schools; campus university ensures short distances and efficient studying.
