There are numerous international collaborations partner universities that encourage Engineering students to spend a period of time studying abroad. Every Chair maintains close contacts with several international research institutions through exchange of scientific knowledge and reciprocal research visits, for example at partner universities. Université de Montréal, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University can be mentioned as examples here.

The extensive equipment for teaching, practical training and research is continuously being updated and extended. A new building with state-of-the-art seminar rooms and a cutting-edge technical centre opened in 2019, and a further building is planned.

The research focuses on new materials, energy and environmental engineering, automotive technology and batteries with the founding of the Bayreuth Battery Centre.

The faculty is a member of the faculty association for Mechanical and Process Engineering, the study association and the MatWerk faculty association as well as the work placement association; in the annual rankings, the high standards of the corresponding control bodies were met in each case.
