There are numerous international collaborations partner universities that encourage Engineering students to spend a period of time studying abroad. Every Chair maintains close contacts with several international research institutions through exchange of scientific knowledge and reciprocal research visits, for example at partner universities. Université de Montréal, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University can be mentioned as examples here.

The extensive equipment for teaching, practical training and research is continuously being updated and extended. Cutting-edge research facilities with a state-of-the-art technical centre are offered by the building of the Technology Alliance Upper Franconia and the Bayreuth Battery Centre.

The research focuses on new materials, energy engineering, environmentally friendly production engineering, bioprocess engineering, automotive engineering and battery engineering.
