Special features regarding teaching

The balanced range of modules, in German and English, during the first four semesters in technical, business and cross-cultural subjects ensures an ideal foundation for stays abroad integrated into the course of study. Such stay of one year, and compulsory, consists of one semester at an international university and a work placement abroad, representing a special feature of the programme that gives graduates a significant competitive edge in the labour market.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Several modules are taught in English and/or have content with a particularly international orientation. The English-taught subject modules at the HSB see the participation of visiting students from international partner universities who work with German students on finding solutions to case studies. Thanks to a year abroad, for which students are prepared by intercultural coaches as part of the curriculum, graduates will have a world of opportunities open to them. The stay abroad includes an academic and practice semester abroad.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

University of Hong Kong, China; Montpellier Business School, Frankreich; Glasgow Caledonia University, Großbritannin; Niagara College, Kanada; University of Latvia, Lettland; University of Malta, Malta; University of Namibia, Namibia; Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Niederlande; Mälardalens Högskola, Schweden; Kookmin University, Südkorea

Special features regarding the equipment

The students can use 100 PCs including extensive peripherals in 5 PC rooms for teaching and self-study. All workstations are connected to the campus network, and have Internet access. In addition, a comprehensive wireless LAN is available on the campus. All course rooms have permanently installed projectors. There are extensive electronic library resources. Students and lecturers are provided with more than 20,000 full-text electronic journals and 5,000 e-books in the campus network; access from home is also possible.

Special features regarding research activities

The degree course dovetails with the research activities of the faculty. In several institutes, professors and other academics work in the field of socio-economic research. This means that there is regular input for teaching; in return, opportunities arise for students to be involved in ongoing research projects.

Support for founders

BRIDGE, the Bremen University initiative to promote entrepreneurial thinking, start-ups and entrepreneurship, provides a course programme focused on entrepreneurship. Interested parties are offered over 20 sessions each semester to develop and/or improve their start-up skills. The BRUT programme of the State of Bremen – assistance for new start-ups by university graduates and young professionals – supports students shortly before the completion of their studies, alumni, doctoral graduates, academics with habilitation, research assistants and young professionals.

Other special features

Since 2010, the Bremen Diversity Prize has been awarded by the Centre for Intercultural Management & Diversity (ZIM) at Bremen City University of Applied Sciences in close cooperation with the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant and 11 other institutions. Under the motto "Creating Diversity, Promoting Equal Opportunities, Avoiding Discrimination", institutions, projects and people from the Bremen area are awarded the Bremen Diversity Prize "The Colourful Key – Creating Diversity!" each year.
