Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Teaching in the Department of Chemistry at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is characterised by a focus on practice thanks to teaching staff with professional experience, practical relevance due to the interlinking of lectures and exercises with exciting laboratory practicals in modern laboratories, and learning and working in small groups. The degree courses are characterised by a high proportion of practical work, which is usually carried out in companies or large research institutions.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da) is a member of the European University of Technology (Eut +) network. The Eut + alliance consists of nine universities with a focus on technological subjects (but there are also numerous other departments represented). The common declared goal is to promote a multifaceted understanding of technology and its central role in solving global societal problems. Humans and their environment should always be taken into account. The motto is therefore "Think Human first".

Special features regarding the equipment

The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology has a modern teaching and laboratory building built in 2017 with a large technical centre. The laboratories are equipped with modern synthesis laboratories, numerous analytical devices, especially for microscopy and spectroscopy, and reactors.

Other special features

Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da) sees itself as an incubator for sustainable development. As a scientific institution, h_da has a special responsibility and wants to help make sure the Earth's resources are there for everyone to enjoy for a long time. Sustainable development therefore permeates everything h_da does: Teaching, research, knowledge transfer and operations. This also applies to the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology. Our degree courses feature strong sustainability elements: Almost all lectures and laboratory practicals deal with sustainability aspects.
