Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The course is characterised by a very good student-teacher ratio and lectures in small groups. Teaching takes place predominantly face-to-face or in hybrid form. Modern teaching methods are constantly being integrated. Particular emphasis is placed on a practical education through numerous practicals and practical exercises. Excursions to companies working in related fields round off the practical orientation. In the higher study semesters, there is also the opportunity to participate in third-party funded projects, for example as part of project work.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The degree programme has a very good student-teacher ratio in the courses. Teaching takes place predominantly face-to-face, but hybrid or asynchronous forms of teaching are also used, above all in career-integrated degree courses. Particular emphasis is placed on career orientation, e.g. through planning seminars and simulation games. Excursions to companies relevant to the field, often accompanied by student presentations, are an important component of teaching. Students with a strong interest in research are involved in relevant third-party funded projects wherever possible.

Special features regarding the equipment

Thanks to high levels of third-party funding, the department has excellent laboratory equipment, which is constantly being expanded. Access to large-scale equipment that may not be available at the university can often be obtained through collaborations with other universities or research institutions.

Special features regarding research and development

Research in the department has a strong interdisciplinary focus. For example, researchers in the field of process engineering often work with researchers from the fields of environmental protection and agriculture and carry out joint projects. Great value is attached to practical relevance in all projects. Therefore, companies are often involved in research projects as project partners to varying degrees.
