Special features regarding teaching

Semester broken down into sub-groups with a maximum of approx. 100 students; High proportion of laboratory practicals to ensure high practical relevance of the training; Extensive range of tutorials; Close integration of teaching through project work with research with research institutes and competence centres; The faculty has more than 200 high-quality PCs for training in CAD, CAE and the use of simulation software in all areas of training; The faculty has more than 20 training laboratories in which approx. EUR 200,000 is invested every year to upgrade equipment.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty offers two double degrees with the Tongji Medical University in China and is developing a double degree with the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico. As part of this programme, faculty professors teach at Tongji University in Shanghai. The faculty's officer for activities abroad is available for further questions. The university provides central support for internationalisation with its International Office, which also advises students.

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty invests an annual EUR 250,000 in the equipment of the training laboratories. The equipment funded by third parties is used not only for research, but also for student training. Every four years, the faculty upgrades all computer equipment for students and teaching staff in the training.

Special features regarding research and development

Through the establishment of the institutes and competence centres, the faculty has acquired special expertise in the fields of energy engineering, building engineering, vehicle engineering, material sciences, product development, generative manufacturing processes, robotics and bionics. Since 2014, the faculty has been allocated positions for professors with a research component for the first time to enable them to conduct their research activities. In the context of collaboration in the Nuremberg Campus of Technology, the faculty was also allocated funds for state-financed academic staff for the first time.

Support for founders

The start-up consulting service of the Technical University is available to all students, employees and alumni of the university for advice and support relating to business start-ups. Topics: Advice on the entire start-up process, from the initial idea to the evaluation of the business idea to financing options; Application for funding programmes for innovative business ideas in cooperation with ZWTT; Referrals to network partners; Information on start-up and idea competitions

Other special features

The faculty supports a racing team for the Formula Student competition. The knowledge and skills acquired in this team can be incorporated into coursework. Through the ICS sponsorship association, scholarships from industry are awarded to students in the Bachelor's degree courses who opt to pursue a course with a more in-depth practical component after the fourth semester.
