Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Tutorials by students from higher semesters for first-year students and learning groups are supported, regular agreements with the student council take place, StudiumPlus - combination of study and training, international orientation - numerous cooperations with universities all over the world, specialisation/choice of focus in the main course of study, practical training, learning centre for mathematics and electrical engineering, bridging courses, programme "Start successfully", seminars "Learn to learn", high practical relevance.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

In the Master's degree programme, it is assumed that students have already acquired experience in independent learning. Therefore, even if they have completed different Bachelor's degree programmes, students can quickly acquire the necessary prior knowledge and work on new content using the teaching materials provided (including teaching videos). By completing one project in each of the first two semesters, students can get to know each other better and contribute to the project results together.

Special features regarding the international orientation

About 25% Bachelor's students with contacts abroad (technical and/or practical semester, final thesis); via 60 partner universities worldwide, in addition to leading market of the USA also in the growth region of South-East Asia; Various mobility programmes with financial support. High-quality double-degree programmes with France (ENSMM) and USA (Cal Poly State University); Erasmus Mundus programme: EU4M Master's programme. International research cooperation with UMP Malaysia (including doctoral students). Numerous international third-party funds have been acquired for projects in which students are involved.

Special features regarding the equipment

To ensure outstanding teaching and research, numerous state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities are available, such as: IMP – Manufacturing Engineering and Production department, Institute of Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Environmental Technology (IKKU), Bionics Laboratory, Robotics Laboratory, Institute for Energy-Efficient Mobility, Plastics Engineering Laboratory, Microcomputer Engineering Laboratory, Quality Management Laboratory, Sensor and Actuator Engineering Laboratory, Materials Testing Laboratory, clean room, Acoustics Laboratory, Institute for Mechatronic Systems, Digital Electronics Laboratory, etc.

Special features regarding research and development

There are a variety of opportunities for students to participate in current research activities here. This is initiated by active communication between the professors, doctoral candidates and students. Through project work, students can make their first contributions in often unusual areas and thus experience the knowledge they have learned for themselves – which also has a positive effect on their motivation to learn; The Master's thesis can then deepen this further. The many research activities in the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Faculty (MMT) give rise to many opportunities for students.

Other special features

Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) has appointed its own Sustainability Officers to broaden this topic even further. There are also a variety of activities and projects in the various faculties, which are also reflected in student projects. Since the 22/23 winter semester, the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Faculty (MMT) has been offering the Bachelor's degree programme in Green Technology Management, which also includes activities in mechatronics and thus offers links to the mechatronics educational concept. This is used as part of joint projects and theses.
