Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The Bachelor's degree course in Shipbuilding is the only university shipbuilding programme in Germany; Working lab: Students can book workspaces and receive project support from a workshop manager and student assistants; Project-based learning; Comprehensive expansion of digital forms of teaching and learning; Active learning in large courses; Refresher course in mathematics and mechanics; Extensive range of tutor-led group exercises with good student-teacher ratio

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department cooperates with more than 60 partner universities worldwide in research and teaching so as to enable all interested students to spend a qualified period of time studying abroad. Specialist supervision for exchange students is provided by a dedicated advisory office within the department. The broad range of courses held in English, internationally oriented course content as well as the international Master's courses also attract numerous international students to the department, especially from India, followed by Turkey, Iran and Mexico.

Special features regarding the equipment

Fourteen rooms with 170 computer workstations (eight Windows pools and five Linux pools); Pool of 30 laptops; Computer pools and computer workstations are available for students to carry out their tasks; Hexapod; Large-scale single-cylinder diesel engine; Wind tunnel; Standard programs for word processing and program development software products from the fields of mathematics/numerics (e.g. Matlab, Maple, Mathcad), CAD (e.g. AutoCAD, So-lidWorks), CAE/FEM/CFD (e.g. Abaqus, Ansys, Comsol, LS-Dyna, Fluent, Starccm +), chemistry (e.g. Turbomole) and other fields

Special features regarding research activities

For 12 years, Collaborative Research Centre 986 "Tailor-Made Multi-Scale Materials Systems – M3" of the German Research Foundation (DFG); German Aerospace Centre (DLR) Institute for Maritime Energy Systems together with the TUHH; The draft proposal "BlueMat: Water Driven Materials" of TUHH in the field of materials research was rated positively by the DFG, full application for funding within the framework of the federal and state governments' Excellence Strategy was submitted by the TUHH in August, successful application for an ERC Synergy Grant together with the Helmholtz Centre Hereon
