Special features regarding teaching

Broad integration of all chairs into the courses; High degree of practical relevance through software packages, case studies, external speakers; Labs including ERP, digital fabrication, data science; Hybrid teaching/learning formats; Project seminars with work in small groups; Numerous options for stays abroad; Courses in German and English; Close supervision by professors and chairs; Involvement in research projects and company collaborations; Active support of start-up projects; active participation in the chairs in preparation for a doctorate is possible.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Studies at an international university are actively supported by the Faculty of Economics, including through the Erasmus+ programme and other partnership programmes with universities outside Europe. As part of a cooperation programme with the University of Liechtenstein, Master's students are able to spend two semesters at each location and thus obtain degrees from both universities. In addition, the faculty organises the annual international summer school "Digital Opportunities in Europe" with participants from all over the world.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Università degli Studi di Padova, Universität Liechtenstein, Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, Norwegen; Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Niederlanden; Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal; Università degli Studi di Verona, Italien; Universita di Bologna, Italien; Universiteit Gent, Belgien; Instituto Technologico de Monterrey, Mexiko; Peking University, China.

Special features regarding the equipment

The chairs have various labs, including ERP systems, digital fabrication and data science. These are available for research and teaching, e.g. for Bachelor’s or Master’s theses or project seminars. A very well stocked digital and traditional library ensures good study and research conditions. Several modern computer clusters and campus-wide WiFi can be also be used outside of lectures.

Special features regarding research activities

The chairs of Business Information Systems are involved in numerous research projects at the national and international level. The research deals with current topics such as data science, Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things and blockchain in the context of modern information systems and other IT applications. The chair-holders have very good networks and excellent academic credentials due to their publications in leading trade journals. Thanks to the link with the Würzburg AI Centre CAIDAS, business information systems is integrated into the AI Network Bavaria.

Support for founders

Many teachers in Business Information Systems have their own start-up experience. They actively support those interested in starting a business with advice and assistance regarding funding, networking with business founders and start-up networks. In addition to courses on business start-ups, innovation or business models, the university is very well connected with all local start-up centres, for example with the Würzburg Centre for Digital Innovation (ZDI) Mainfranken.

Other special features

The faculty has grown significantly in recent years and has been strengthened in terms of personnel and content, especially in Business Information Systems and Data Science. In addition to the traditionally strong link with the Würzburg Computer Science Faculty, this area has also benefited greatly in recent times from its involvement in the cross-faculty Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS). CAIDAS was funded by “High-Tech Agenda Bavaria” and today forms one of four research-strong nodes of the AI Network Bavaria.
