Special features regarding teaching

The special feature of a close link between theory/university and practice is not only reflected in the course structure (integrated practice semester,; lecturers from industry) and course content (elective areas, projects), but also in the diverse collaborations between professors and industry (in research projects, advisory boards or voluntary board work, etc.). Teaching uses innovative teaching and learning formats (numerous group and project assignments, research-based learning, hybrid teaching, etc.) and digital media technology.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In the Bachelor´s degree course in Social Work, students can choose an INTERNATIONAL specialisation, which comprises at least 15 credits for the acquisition of international subject-specific skills and 15 credits for the acquisition of cross-cultural skills. Students are supported to spend a practical or theoretical semester abroad. Every semester there are a range of courses in English worth at least 30 ECTS. The specialisation "International Social Work” in the Master’s of Social Work examines social work within international and cross-cultural contexts; classes are partly bilingual.

Since 12/2020, the research focus areas in the Social Work, Education and Nursing Faculty have been "Social, Nursing, Health and Education Research in the Context of Social Change"; Various research topics relevant for the future are addressed and funded by various federal and state programmes (skilled workers' situation in nursing, health prevention, housing shortages, right-wing extremism prevention, etc.)

Support for founders

GründES!, the Centre for Entrepreneurship at Esslingen University, is the central point of contact for all questions about entrepreneurship and innovation. We promote entrepreneurial spirit and responsible entrepreneurship close to people and technology with international projects, workshops and events and support students, staff, alumni and start-ups in their start-up projects.

Individual study paths are easy to take, since in the Bachelor's degree course in Social Work all modules are offered every semester, which simplifies postponements.
