Special features regarding teaching

The Department of Social Work offers – on an equal footing with each other – two versions of the Bachelor and Master in Social Work: apart from the full-time attendance programme, there is one career-integrated and one part-time option. In addition to reflective parts for the training of a professionally appropriate appearance, practice-oriented course contents play an important role.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Department of Social Work has numerous international partnerships. Students studying for the Bachelor´s degree course in Social Work can take an international module: Crossing Borders. Development of the module "Discrimination and Racism in Social Work". Unit "European Social Policy / EU Law" in the module Social Sciences Discourses in the Master's programme.

Intensive cooperation with the Department of Media (Radio, Television, Cross-Media), state-of-the-art interactive media equipment, computer cluster, video conferencing. Strengthening of the collaboration with the Faculty of Computer and Life Sciences in connection with the establishment of data management systems and experimental data for social reporting, database Intermonitor for social monitoring processes

Social reporting for municipalities; Social space analyses; Multi-year projects to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; Regional development and rural areas; Social economy and human resource development in social and youth care; Research on the life situations of the elderly, health, psychosocial situation (e.g. dementia, nursing, care structure)

Other special features

The faculty cooperates very closely with the Institute of Communication, Competence and Languages (IKKS) at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. Here, the focus is on, among other things, the teaching of intercultural skills and the critical examination of relevant and current socio-political topics (e.g. regularly offered lecture series and the format “Controversial Dialogue”).
