Special features regarding teaching

The degree course has a high degree of practical relevance: In addition to a 5-month work placement, several practice-oriented modules and seminars with practitioners as lecturers are characteristic of the degree course. Specialised courses, for example on the topics of Drugs and Drug Use, Systemic Social Work and Applied Sexology are an important part of teaching, as are seminars on artistic skills. The artistic workshops (video and film workshop; music workshop;; photography workshop; theatre workshop; painting, drawing and printing workshop) are a central part of teaching in the faculty.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The degree programme includes a compulsory "international module" in which, in addition to an English language course (at different levels), only English-language specialist seminars are offered with international lecturers. In addition to expanding the skills of our students, teaching is more attractive for foreign students and teachers. We encourage our students to do a semester or internship abroad (bi-national theses / projects also possible). These processes are supported by the faculty's International Officer, among others.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

TEI Crete, Heraklion, Kreta; Institut of Technology, Dundalk, Irland; University of Granada, Spanien; University of Bergamo, Norditalien; Nasantasi University, Istanbul, TĂĽrkei.

Special features regarding the equipment

In addition to SPSS and MAXQDA, the faculty's own PC clusters and media workshops offer students subject-specific programmes for editing and creating audio-visual media, such as Audacity and Pro Tools, Adobe Premiere CS6; AVID and Mocha. The artistic workshops of the department have a 90 degree green screen, digital video matrix (140 IN / OUT), 3 studio cameras (incl. Teleprompter), Lawo Vpro8, audio network including RIO Stagebox, RTW Mastering tools, AVID Media Composer and video transceiver (including LiveU LU2000).

Special features regarding research activities

The faculty conducts short-, medium- and long-term research projects (also funded by federal funds), some of which are interdisciplinary. As a rule, seminar work and student projects are involved in these research projects, so that teaching and research can benefit from each other.

Support for founders

There is close cooperation with the university's own start-up service, which has supported two spin-offs by faculty graduates, among other things. The university's start-up service actively supports students, graduates and academics from all faculties in their move towards self-employment and assists them throughout the entire start-up process: From the development of a corporate idea to business start-up and support during the growth phase.

Other special features

The Faculty of Social Work. Media. Culture also includes artistic workshops, which are of central importance for teaching in the degree courses. These include the video & film workshop (with TV and chrome studio, trick & animation workshop, speaker booth & multimedia workshop and much more), the music and audio workshop (recording studio, radio station, production platform ProTools and much more), the theatre workshop (with its own theatre, fundus and much more), photography workshop (with photo studio, laboratories and much more) as well as the painting, drawing and printing workshop (with drawing room and printing room, for example screen printing).
