Special features regarding teaching

The department bases its research achievements on the theoretical guiding concept of "governance". This orientation is also reflected in the conceptual design of the degree courses and is based on "Financial Governance" and "Business Governance" in the area of Business Administration. This is reflected in the existence of four chairs focusing on Accounting, which will be strengthened by the endowed chair for "Corporate Ethics and Controlling". In the teaching, staff cooperate closely with the faculty's own chairs for Economic Law.

Special features regarding the international orientation

For the Bachelor's, there is an English-language "Business Economics" degree course that is geared specifically to international students.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Universität Budapest, Ungarn; Universität Bratislava, Slovakei; Universität Salamanca, Spanien; Universität Santander, Spanien; Universität Oviedo, Spanien; Universität Katowice, Polen; Universität St-Denis, Frankreich; Universite Paris 12, Frankreich; Universita degli studi di Cassino, Italien; Universita degli studi di Parma, Italien.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Economics area has four generously equipped PC clusters and is a leader in multimedia teaching thanks to its link to the Teaching and Learning Centre at the University. The campus used by the Economics faculty boasts comprehensive (and naturally free) WiFi access for all University members.

Special features regarding research activities

The area of Economics focuses its research work on the theoretical keyword of "Governance". This offers a joint umbrella for the research activities, which is built on three pillars. The Business Administration research activities are centred on the terms "Financial Governance" and "Business Governance". This focus on governance is reflected in publications and projects.

Support for founders

Courses on "Innovation and Entrepreneurship", together with the founders' service; and the ASQ module of the founders' service; Learning goals: Generating ideas and specification of business models, development of assessment and decision-making ability and problem-solving skills, recognising and utilising entrepreneurial opportunities, evaluation of the market environment, knowledge of exploitation channels and processes, development of general management skills (e.g. project development, presentation, leadership, organisation).

Other special features

As early as 1727, a professorship for Economics, Police and Chamber matters was established in Halle at a German university. With their achievements in the field of Economics, Halle scholars later made the university known both in Germany and far beyond (for example Ludwig Heinrich Jakob, a co-founder of finance, Gustav Schmoller and Johannes Conrad. Erich Gutenberg, who received his doctorate in Halle in 1921, was one of the pioneers in Business Administration and also began his academic career in Halle).
