Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Annual design competition as part of the Development Methods lectures in cooperation with industrial companies – teams work on a practice-related topic from industry with tight deadlines. The teams' performance is assessed by the companies and the university. Participation in the ChemCar competition for designing a model vehicle that is driven by one or several (bio)chemical reactions. Successful participation in the chemPLANT competition. Interdisciplinary project TUCreate practical project (Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science).

Special features regarding the international orientation

In the summer semester of 2024, the proportion of international students in the department was about 70%. The students came from 49 different countries. There are over 50 international collaborations within the department as part of the Erasmus programme and a further 10 international collaborations outside of the Erasmus programme.

"Study at the Centre" – active involvement of students in research projects in the form of degree work or work as an academic assistant is possible.

Special features regarding research activities

The professors of the faculty have a strong network with research centres in Clausthal. This enables students to complete their project work and theses in the research centres, as well as participate in the various research focuses (energy, environmental engineering, materials technology).

Other special features

For more than 13 years, the Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (MVC) departmental student body has been running a materials library for DIN A3 drawing boards, which are required, for example, in technical drawing. The university sport enjoys an excellent reputation among students, this is regularly confirmed in surveys.
