Special features regarding research activities

Research at the IPW covers the breadth of Political Science. Research focus areas of the IPW lie in the fields of Comparative Welfare State Research, International Relations, European Integration, Methodological Research, International Political Economy and Discourse Research. In addition to numerous individual grants, the IPW is significantly involved in the "Bremen Graduate School for Social Sciences" and supports the DFG Collaborative Research Centre "Global Dynamics of Social Policy", in which a good sixty researchers have been working since 2018.

Support for founders

University-wide, BRIDGE and Unitransfer exist to qualify students for business start-ups or to support them in setting up a business. These offer training and qualification modules as well as network meetings for graduates who would like to become self-employed. The Career Centre, the ProUB doctoral centre, and the BYRD junior researcher centre for postdoctoral students also present corresponding opportunities.

Other special features

Political Science in Bremen is one of the strongest research locations in the field in Germany. The subject contributed significantly to the "Excellence" title that the University of Bremen held until 2019. Political science in Bremen is also characterised by methodological and theoretical pluralism, as well as by research that also looks beyond Europe and strong work on young academics.
