Special features regarding research activities

Current research projects (selection): State of Digitalisation in Japan and Germany, Solution of Complex Traffic Problems, Quantum Computers in the Financial Sector or Effects of the COVID Pandemic on Economic Variables. The research focus areas can be divided into the 5 areas of Business Models, Quantitative Economic Analysis, Digital Transformation, International Economics and Start-ups. 6 professors are members of the Competence Centre for Economics and Management Science (WuMS). Doctorates are usually carried out through the research campus Mittelhessen.

Support for founders

Own professorship "Entrepreneurship", module Entrepreneurship (gaining initial start-up experience along the lines of Design Thinking), compulsory elective module Social Entrepreneurship (development of business plans for social enterprises) for those interested in starting a business. Lively exchange with the local start-up networks, such as the regular business founders’ get-together of the Gießen business promotion service (Wirtschaftsförderung). Every year: International entrepreneurship exchange programmes in cooperation with the Centre for Entrepreneurship of the partner university Edinburgh Napier, in which industry representatives evaluate business ideas and their development.

Close personal contact between students, professors & non-teaching staff. Close cooperation with the departmental student body. Regular summer parties, graduation parties. Continuous improvement of teaching through a sophisticated evaluation system: Surveys of first-semester students and mentors, course programme/event evaluations, including dialogue-based evaluation, alumni surveys. Networking with regional companies (sponsorship group, corporate fair, projects, work placements). Introductory week with simulation game.
