Target group

The Master’s in Korean Studies focuses on modern-day Korea in a regional and global context. The specialisation Master of Korean European Studies MAKES with the Seoul National University (SNU) allows for a dual-degree Master’s. In two years, the course offers a Master’s degree with a high level of subject-specific and language skills as well as professional experience. Students focus on central topics of the history, society and culture of modern Korea. The critical study of the Korean Peninsula, its location and its embedding in a regional and global context opens up a wide range of perspectives. Graduates reach a high level of Korean language proficiency, at C2 level CEFR. In order to consolidate skills in professional, linguistic and cultural terms, the optional study session in South Korea is recommended and the corresponding infrastructure is provided via the TUCKU. Outstanding students can apply within the framework of the Master’s programme for the specialisation Master of Korean European Studies (MAKES), which is completed with a dual degree. The first year is taken in Tübingen and the second at the prestigious partner university SNU in Seoul. After two years of study, graduates receive two Master degrees. A unique feature of Korean Studies in Tübingen is the Tuebinger Centre for Korean Studies at Korea University (TUCKU) in Seoul. The external office coordinates the university exchange directly on site and ensures personal support for the students abroad.
