Target group

The two-year Master’s phase of the integrated degree course is split equally between the two universities in the order chosen by the students. Under Option A, the students spend the first year of the Master’s degree in Tübingen and attend advanced seminars and part-examinations in two periods of history and in the related minor subject of the B.A./Licence degree course they previously completed. The students then spend the second year of the Master’s in Aix, where they also write their Master’s thesis. If students select Option B, they begin the Master’s phase in Aix, where they attend introductory and specialisation courses before then completing modules in Tübingen in two periods of history (or alternatively in one period of history and their previous B.A. minor subject) and writing the Master’s thesis. In addition to the M.A./ Master’s, students can also earn an additional qualification, the Diplôme d'Études Africaines, at the partner university Aix-Marseille if they select the corresponding courses in Aix-en-Provence (three courses on African history, a language course in Arabic or Portuguese, a course on African geography).
