Annotation

Major subject in combination Bachelor's degree course - only possible in combination with one or two minor subjects Standard period of study: 6 or 8 semesters (depending on combination) Further information on the structure of the combination Bachelor's degree course can be found here:https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/studium/studieninteressierte/studienmoeglichkeiten/kombibachelor The major subject "Historical Comparative Linguistics" offers you a sound education in topics and methods of general and historical linguistics. This forms the basis for your work with the most important languages of the Indo-European language family (Old Indic, Latin, Hittite, Greek), which form the core subject area of the degree course. The spectrum can be expanded by additional languages through regulated options; For example, there is a special research focus in Marburg on the languages of ancient Anatolia. On the basis of the languages mentioned and their tradition, you will work on linguistic and philological approaches to historical textual evidence. In addition, you will learn to apply the methods of language comparison and to understand and assess the reconstruction of the common basic language of the Indo-European languages. The aim of the degree course is to acquire an academically qualified and at the same time professionally relevant degree that either enables entry into various language- and culture-oriented professional fields or the admission to a degree course in the field of historical linguistics leading to the degree Master of Arts (MA). An integral part of the degree course is the MarSkills programme, in which you acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills (see https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/fb09/igs/arbeitsgruppen/sprechwissenschaft/marskills/was-ist-marskills).
