Description

Description

To complement our team, in the field of manufacturing and materials technology at wbk, we are looking for a temporary

Research Associate / Doctoral Student (f/m/d)

in the TV-L E 13 (100 %) salary group at the earliest possible date on the topic of

Additive manufacturing: Optimization of the PBF-LB process chain through the application of simulation approaches

Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) is the most widely used industrial additive manufacturing process for the production of metal components. The use of simulative approaches in combination with experimental work has repeatedly proven its effectiveness in optimizing the process.
Your work will focus on the simulation of one or more steps in the PBF-LB process chain, for example in the form of a particle simulation using the discrete element method (DEM) or a process simulation using the finite element method (FEM), as well as the experimental validation of your results. In addition, you will gain insights into various other fields of activity in cooperation with partners from industry and research. As part of your work at KIT, you will have the opportunity to do your doctorate and to spend several weeks abroad. We support your professional and personal development through continuous support measures.

The position is initially limited to 1 year with the possibility of extension for 3 years.

What you can expect (excerpt):
- Development, investigation and optimization of additive process chains
- Proximity to industry and practice; formation of a (scientific) network
- High standards and professionalism
- Personal development and a creative working environment
- Professional and personal development
- Opportunity for a doctorate

What we expect:
- Above-average university degree in engineering (preferably mechanical engineering, materials science or related)
- High level of commitment, creativity and resilience
- Independent and systematic way of working
- Ability to work in a team
- Very good knowledge of German and English
