• Standard application procedure

  Application requirements
  Students enrolled at one of Hanover's higher education institutions supported by the Studentenwerk are eligible for a place in student accommodation. Attendants of the local "Studienkolleg" and other university preparatory courses are also eligible. Students who are also a (paid) assistant or trainee (e.g., a trainee teacher or trainee lawyer) or have a comparable job, as well as students who are working more than required for covering living expenses while studying, are not entitled to accommodation. Students who complete a postgraduate, supplementary, secondary, or doctoral course of studies are typically also not entitled to accommodation. Foreign doctoral students will usually be allowed accommodation for up to six months.

  Application deadline
  There is no application deadline. Applications can be submitted at any time. However, students should apply as early as possible, especially for the winter semester.

  We allocate rooms in the order in which applications are received. Applications from students with disabilities are given priority (please send a copy of a certificate via e-mail). At the beginning of the winter semester, preference will be given to first-year students who come from outside the Hanover region.
  
  As soon as your application is received, the Studentenwerk will try to offer you a place in your preferred student house from the time you have requested. However, at the beginning of the semester, demand often exceeds the number of available spaces. It is therefore possible that you will be put on a waiting list. These lists are kept separately for every student house. You will be notified as soon as a place is available for you.

• Exchange students, students in special programmes ("Hanover Model")

  The International Office offers an Accommodation Service for international exchange students.
  The office cooperates with the "Studentenwerk" and other organisations in charge of accommodation. More information about this can be found here.

• Additional information

  For the International Quarter, a permit for subsidised housing called "B-Schein" Housing Voucher must be presented. You can get information about the permit for subsidised housing at the
