Special features regarding teaching

After completing the basic degree programme, students can opt for one of the 6 degree specialisations in the main degree programme. The degree course is very practical: Projects are already carried out in the first semester; many laboratory courses impart course content with a practical and application orientation; there is also a practical semester and the Bachelor’s thesis in industry. The students are involved in the ongoing research projects of the faculty. Students appreciate the personal atmosphere in the faculty. Offers of support with learning centres.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering offers a number of options and programmes to gain international experience during studies: Double-degree programme (Master’s) with INSA in Strasbourg (France), double-degree programme (Master’s) with Ryerson University in Toronto (Canada), semester abroad in Timisoara (Romania), double-degree programme (Master’s) with VIT University in India (SSTM), Lawrence Berkeley Lab in California (USA), exchange programme with the University of Alabama (USA). Bachelor International as a study variant begins in winter semester 2022/2023.

Special features regarding the equipment

In order to consolidate the contents of the lectures and apply acquired knowledge in practice, numerous laboratory events and exercises and students projects are held during degree courses in the faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Information Technology. The laboratories are excellently equipped and meet industry standards. During the laboratory activities, practical skills are taught that not only help students to get an idea ofthe practical application but prepare them for their future careers as well.

Special features regarding research and development

The EIT faculty has focal points in the area of applied research and development. There is also an interesting technology transfer into practice. Sensor technology research at the electrical and information technology faculty is concentrated in the Institute for Sensor and Information Systems (ISIS). Other professors are active in research in the Institute for Energy-Efficient Mobility, and in the Institute for Applied Research in the field of machine learning.

Support for founders

Students who want to work on entrepreneurial challenges during their studies and are considering founding a company receive needs-based support – including outside of teaching, e.g. in learning/co-working space/events and guidance.

Other special features

The students of the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology faculty have the opportunity to do a so-called StudiumPLUS or combined degree (Verbundstudium) in cooperation with a company. During their degree course, the students are integrated into the company, which gives them additional practical training. As a rule, a StudiumPLUS/combined degree means the students are employed by the company, which means they get paid for the duration of the degree programme.
