Special features regarding teaching

By constantly updating course content, the faculty’s lecturers ensure that the latest developments in the construction industry are also taken into account in teaching. Many professors are very familiar with the latest developments in building practice due to their secondary work in construction, and these findings are quickly included in teaching content. For an interdisciplinary education, all students are required to take compulsory electives in general topics in science. In addition to ‘seminar instruction’, innovative methods in teaching and instruction are used.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In addition to good contacts to Brazil and the USA, there is an intensive cooperation with the CDAI (Chinese-German Institute of Applied Engineering Sciences) of ZUST (Zhejiang University of Science and Technology) in Hangzhou, China. Seven Chinese students from Hangzhou are enrolled in the faculty. In return, German students can apply for a semester abroad at the CDAI.

Special features regarding the equipment

Through continuous new acquisitions of new projectors, PCs, printers, plotters and servers, the department’s IT equipment could be kept at a high level and adapted to current requirements. The PC rooms are used by a variety of courses in an effort to familiarise students early on with the use of computer programs for the practical work of construction. Facilities are continuously improving within the scope of hybrid instruction.

Special features regarding research and development

Numerous students of the faculty work with their theses on research projects, particularly in the field of steel and lightweight metal construction and in the laboratory for building materials. The research institute for materials and construction research further expands the strong position of research at the faculty and opens up the possibility for even more students to participate in current research projects. As a residential and host university of ByayWiss-Verbundkolleg "Infrastruktur, Bauen und Urbanisierung", graduates are offered a structured path to doctoral degrees.

Support for founders

With its Entrepreneurship Center SCE, the Munich University of Applied Sciences offers a variety of services that impart know-how and skills in the areas of innovation, personality development and founding one’s own business, and supports HM students, teachers and employees with their entrepreneurship activities.

Other special features

Students take a great interest in the numerous excursions offered by the department; these trips offer a high degree of practical relevance.
