Special features regarding teaching

The semester sizes in the faculty are kept small with 35 students in the Bachelor's degree course and 12 students in the Master's degree course. The small groups and direct contact between professors and students give the lectures the feel of a seminar; Practical application occurs in exercises and project work. The close integration of studies, laboratory practicals, practical semesters and project work is achieved through courses and intensive supervision of students. Key social skills are further developed in the process.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty has maintained a global network of partner universities and companies for many years. The semester abroad and research semesters are organised, work placements are arranged and research and development-related projects carried out in this network. Selected lectures are offered in English to provide optimal support for student exchanges with partner universities. One particular highlight is the binational Master's degree course in Engineering and Management with the University of Tucumán which ends with two Master's transcripts and is supported by the DAHZ.

Special features regarding the equipment

The 7 laboratories, 3 test centres and 4 institutes in the faculty are merged under the strategic umbrella of the Institute Centre for Applied Research. Thanks to the organisational unit, the laboratories are used effectively for teaching across degree courses, research activities are expanded and a close mutual relationship is established between teaching and applied research.

Special features regarding research and development

The students benefit from the ground-breaking and innovative topics of the research projects on the one hand and, on the other, they are able to participate directly in research projects. This allows for in-depth practical experience and contact is often established to potential employers. The customers in turn benefit directly from the research results and the contact to academics. The ability to innovate is ensured and skills are developed and strengthened through this technology transfer.

Support for founders

Students are introduced to business and entrepreneurial thought during the faculty's seminars and lectures, which teach practical and methodological foundations that (potential) company founders need. The strong networks of the HBC start-up initiative means that the faculty can offer students the opportunity to network in the area of entrepreneurship and benefit from established structures.

Other special features

Our faculty is characterised by targeted promotion of students. Students are supported during their degree by 21 Germany scholarships in the semester. In addition, Bachelor's students have access to a wide range of grants for stays abroad. In addition to the PROMOS and ERASMUS scholarships, the DAAD's ISAP scholarship is available to students preparing for the binational master's degree in Engineering Management. Students of the binational master's degree are funded through the scholarship schemes of the DAHZ.
