Special features regarding teaching

The DHBW graduates are independent and capable engineers who are able to identify complex technical challenges in electrical engineering in their entire breadth and develop target-oriented solutions. During their 6-semester course they acquire basic knowledge of electrical engineering, specific knowledge in five disciplines, good knowledge of circuit technology, programming and control of systems, key skills such as social and methodological skills and sound basic knowledge in the fields of business administration and technical management.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Through the practical work in the companies, which often also have a strong focus on exports, students are able to experience international work first-hand. Practical experience abroad is often offered and utilised; The company language is often English. The university promotes internationality with lectures or parts of lectures in English, lecturers from abroad, using English literature and data sheets, the possibility of a study visit abroad and writing the bachelor's thesis abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

In Electrical Engineering, the use of modern measuring instruments in laboratory classes and student research projects is an important part of the course. The university makes available high-quality measuring systems, which are available in sufficient numbers not only for the laboratories but also for student research projects. For circuit development and manufacturing, students have access to the appropriate development and manufacturing systems for prototype production. The latest control systems and intelligent drive systems are utilised in many different ways.

Special features regarding research and development

Students work on projects in companies' engineering departments and carry out small development tasks. As part of their research projects in the 3rd year students work on research and development tasks, some of which are interdisciplinary. In their bachelor's thesis, which are carried out in industry, students work on highly topical research and development topics, some of which have even led to patent registrations.

Support for founders

Graduates generally don't start a company until they have had a few years of professional experience. This gives the company founders plenty of business experience, which they will not have gained during the practical phases of the degree in the various departments. Developments can be worked on at the university as part of students' project work, and cooperative research work ensures close cooperation with the university lecturers. Start-up companies have access to the university's high-quality equipment, which is useful during the first few years of the launch.
