Special features regarding teaching

The Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Technology faculty as the home of automotive mechatronics offers everything from a single source: Not only in the technical disciplines such as mechanics, electrics, electronics, computer science and materials engineering. It also has competences in manufacturing and production technology, logistics, as well as applied automobile technology. The faculty currently employs two economists with professional experience in the automotive industry who teach business management and entrepreneurial skills.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty and the International Office help students gain international experience during their degree. For example, students can do their industry internship in the fifth semester and their final dissertation abroad - the faculty makes special arrangements to support this. Furthermore, courses taken abroad as part of the Erasmus programme for example can be credited. The Coburg University of Applied Sciences offers double degree programmes with Shanghai (China) and Monterrey (Mexico).

Special features regarding the equipment

The automobile technology courses of the faculty feature large laboratory areas and new technical facilities and test benches used for teaching purposes in automobile technology. Specifically, this includes test benches for engines, a vehicle roller dynamometer and a driving simulator in the new Centre for Mobility and Energy. The driving simulator can be used specifically to develop teaching content for autonomous driving. There are also laboratories for electrical engineering, computer science, electronics and control engineering.

Special features regarding research and development

Students of automotive mechatronics also have the opportunity to participate in the diverse research activities of Coburg University of Applied Sciences on scientific issues in the automotive industry and mechanical engineering as part of their studies. The institutes TAC (Transferzentrum Automotive Coburg), IHEA (Institute for High-Voltage Technology, Energy Systems and System Diagnostics), ISAT (Institute for Sensor and Actuator Technology) as well as the Fraunhofer Application Center Wireless Sensor Technology welcome active support from highly motivated students.

Support for founders

When students develop new processes, products or services as part of a project, seminar or final thesis or independently, they are given the chance to realise them with support of the faculty's start-up officer. The start-up officer helps the students with the correct procedure and points to potential funding opportunities.

Other special features

The Coburg University of Applied Sciences has been extremely successful in Formula Student for more than ten years with the CAT Racing (Coburg Automobile Team) and ranks at the top of the world. Formula Student is a worldwide design and project management competition. Every year a race car is financed, built and brought to the race track according to a specific set of rules. For students of automotive mechatronics in particular this is an excellent opportunity to apply their new theoretical skills in practice.
