Special features regarding teaching

A good student-teacher ratio and modern buildings and laboratories enable application- and practically oriented training; student surveys show that this is an important reason for selecting the university. With high-quality laboratory equipment, Bachelor's students are introduced to the reality of the profession, paving the way for direct career entry.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department has a very strong international orientation; The Applied Biology degree course is only offered in English, while the Forensic Science degree course is offered half in German and half in English. International co-operations enable students to do a double degree course with an integrated semester abroad. The department sees the large number of outgoing and incoming students as an important asset of the department culture and the training.

Special features regarding the equipment

Very good technical equipment is used in teaching and in research, such as scanning electron microscopes, GC/MS, LC/MS, HPLC, FACS device, fluorescence microscopes. The entire campus is equipped with WiFi; Quiet work rooms and working zones provide optimum study conditions.

Special features regarding research and development

The broadly-based research in the department serves as the basis for modern teaching that takes up new developments in the respective specialist fields and offers students practical training in current methods. Security research is an integrative umbrella theme that bundles research on the topic of Sensor Engineering, Chemistry, Biology and Forensics. The activities in the field of Stem Cell Research, Immunology Research, Chemistry and Sustainability in Materials Engineering are other examples.

Other special features

The department cooperates in research with the International Centre for Sustainable Development in the areas of health, renewable energies, safety and environment risks as well as climate protection.
