Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

The department has its own Study Centre with individual supervision. Developed writing coaching (Internet portal: "Bremen Writing Coach", "The Academic Writer's Workbench") as well as measures of the BMBF initiative "Bildung in Sprache und Schrift" (Education in written and spoken language) support the learning process. A close link between research and teaching is achieved early on via research-based learning projects. The curriculum is developed in study committees with equal representation of students.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty has an Erasmus Coordination Office which organises stays abroad for incoming and outgoing students. The international Master’s programme ‘Romance Studies International’ attracts foreign students and academics to the department.

Special features regarding the equipment

The department offers its own CIP pool and study rooms, some with additional PC workstations. Modern media technology is either located in the classrooms themselves or is available for mobile use via a media centre.

Special features regarding research activities

Research projects with an interdisciplinary focus, including ‘Postcolonial Literary/Cultural/Language Studies’ (Literary Studies, Linguistics); "Subject-related education processes in Transformation" (Specialised Didactics, Subject and Educational Science); "Text-Image-Film"/"Multimodality" (Language, Literature, Culture, Media Studies, Computer Science); "Fiction meets Science" (Literature, Natural Sciences). The joint research project "Worlds of Contradiction" contextualises the humanities across disciplines.
