Orientation; good supervision ratio in the internships; teaching of team management skills; five Master's degree courses (some English-language and interdisciplinary); large range of electives in the Master's degree courses; early involvement of students in current research projects; connection to non-university research institutions; opportunity for external internships.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Two purely English-language Master's degree courses with international students; other Master's degree courses: German and English-language; introduction to English as a language of science in the Bachelor's degree course; own international representatives to support student mobility; recognition of study achievements abroad; eleven Erasmus partner universities, several worldwide exchange programmes; workshops on "Scientific Writing", etc., international composition of working groups; inter-university support for visiting scientists.

Special features regarding research activities

Institute for Ecology, Evolution and Diversity, Institute for Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Institute for Molecular Biosciences, Department of Didactics of Life Sciences; in total 38 Prof. (one of the largest biological departments in Germany); excellent organismic and molecular competencies, various research networks (e.g. Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre, LOEWE priority DynaMem, Interdisciplinary Centre for Neuroscience), cooperations with Senckenberg Research Institute, MPI Brain Research, Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, among others.

Other special features

Diverse opportunities for external work placements and final theses in non-university research institutions, e.g. MPI for Brain Research, MPI for Biophysics, MPI for Empirical Aesthetics, Senckenberg Research Institute, Paul Ehrlich Institute, Georg-Speyer-Haus, Ernst-Strüngmann Institute.
