Laboratories and pool rooms (approx. 100 workplaces) offer very good technical working conditions. Multimedia-equipped lecture halls, group and quiet workplaces offer a modern and individual teaching and learning environment. The university and district library on campus offers an extensive range of media as well as excellent support for academic work and research.

Special features regarding research and development

The Faculty of Computer Science is one of the top research faculties in computer sciences in Germany. In addition to the research activities of the individual professors, research institutes have been formed with different focal points, such as visual computing (IVC), security research (ISF) or resource conservation and energy efficiency (TREE). Here, interdisciplinary research is always a priority. Other important research areas that are becoming established or crystallizing are autonomous systems/robotics and cyber security and privacy.

Support for founders

The Faculty maintains close contacts to the university’s Business Campus, which provides start-up support to students and graduates. The Faculty also cooperates with the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and SMEs (CENTIM), which is also located at the H-BRS. It offers regular workshops and lecture series – some interdisciplinary, some subject-specific.

Other special features

The Language Centre offers students a wide range of general and subject-specific language courses, language examinations, writing workshops (D/E) and much more. A ServicePoint, run by students for students is available to students and lecturers for questions relating to academic studies and technology. In the degree workshop, students are supported in their learning by trained student tutors. The Free Software Lab of the students serves the exchange around free and open software and offers helpful services not only for students.
