Special features regarding teaching

The professors in the Department of AN, with their relevant industry experience is excellently suited to teach both the application-oriented and academic content of the degree courses. The close links between teaching and application in the practicals and the ideal ratio of professors to students create an excellent environment for academic success. The courses are supported by e-Learning modules, including exercises, certificates and films which give information about upcoming laboratory experiments.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty supports students in all degree courses who want to do part of their studies abroad. Study abroad usually takes place with English-speaking countries, e.g. the USA, Singapore and Finland. Practical semester and final theses are often written in Switzerland and Austria. Guest students come from partner universities in Argentina, Singapore and Spain. Department professors give lectures at intern. science conferences and work at partner universities (e.g. Vienna) as part of the Erasmus programme.

Special features regarding the equipment

OMM and CIB: Excellently equipped, modern laboratories, starting from basic Chemistry to facilities for paint and polymer production to application technology with robots and spray booths, materials testing and application technology, e.g. corrosion protection and building protection. Extensive analysis and measuring and testing engineering; BTB: new and modern laboratories; Biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, bioprocess engineering with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities; Additional laboratory for use as a ‘bioengineering centre’ for all areas in bioengineering. And specifically as a research laboratory.

Special features regarding research and development

Various research projects are carried out in the field of chemical engineering, e.g. on surface systems and on the simulation of coating processes. In the field of biotechnology, special emphasis is placed on research in the fields of bioprocess engineering, molecular biology and cell biology, in particular the monitoring and improvement of defined cell culture media (for the development of an inflammatory fat tissue model) and on the functional analysis of disease-relevant proteins in tumour cell lines as well as in the field of automated monitoring and control of bioprocesses

Other special features

Unique feature of the degree course in chemical engineering paint and varnish: The only Bachelor's degree course in Germany with this subject-related focus and with the combination of Engineering, Natural Science and Design content.
