The modules of the degree programme are offered in English and German. When you apply for the BSc Food Technology in the application portal, your language skills will be checked, which will determine whether you study only in German (with a C1 certificate or German university entrance qualification), only in English (with a B2 certificate), or will have a free choice to study in either language (both language certificates required).

Food Technology is an interdisciplinary study programme with a strong practical orientation. Food technologists are involved in all stages of the food production process, from the primary production of raw materials and plant engineering to the production of safe food on an industrial scale and quality assurance. In addition to the use of state-of-the-art techniques, food processing is a consideration of technological, scientific, and economic aspects. The study programme at Fulda University of Applied Sciences covers different aspects of food production – from plant and animal sources to beverage technology and pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
The study programme is international in design: the courses are conducted in English as well as in German, i.e. English language proficiency at B2 level or German skills at C1 level are required. In addition, various foreign language courses can be attended.
Students will acquire technical and technological knowledge to analyse and control production processes in large industrial production plants. They will develop a scientific understanding and use this to apply physical, chemical, and biological processes in the processing of raw materials and food. Theoretical knowledge will be consolidated through various laboratory exercises, thus preparing students for professional requirements. Graduates of the programme usually immediately start their careers in the food industry.

In the first two semesters of the study programme, the general basics of engineering (e.g. mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology), management, and scientific work will be taught. Already in the second semester, more food-related modules start, such as food technology or food microbiology. As the study programme progresses, specific food-related tasks will be taken up in specific courses, such as thermal and mechanical process engineering, hygiene and quality requirements, food law, nutritional and physiological issues, etc. After the sixth semester, the study programme will be completed with an internship and the following Bachelor's thesis. As a rule, the programme ends after seven semesters with the conferment of the Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree.
Study units abroad are not mandatory but possible.

A semester contribution of around 300 EUR is charged to cover the cost of student services, the student government, an administrative fee as well as the "semester ticket" (a student bus and rail pass for local and regional public transport).

International students can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship, which amounts to 300 EUR/month and is usually granted for 12 months. Prerequisites for this scholarship are good grades and/or extra-curricular activities.

The International Office offers an accommodation service for international students coming directly from abroad. Costs for accommodation amount to approx. 350–400 EUR/month for a single room in a shared flat or 400–500 EUR/month for a single apartment.
