University of Regensburg

Founded in 1962, the University of Regensburg is a campus university with an excellent infrastructure (e.g., library equipment, computer centre). With its 12 faculties, the university offers a wide variety of programmes of study. Originally designed as a regional university, it has developed into a renowned centre of teaching and research with a strong tradition in international cooperation.
The current student population of the university is around 21,200, with 1,600 international students.

University location

The appeal of the University of Regensburg is enhanced by the attractiveness of the city and its pleasant surroundings as well as the proximity of the Danube Valley and the Bavarian Forest. The medieval stone bridge spanning the Danube and the Gothic cathedral are the emblems of this city of 152,000 inhabitants. In July 2006, Regensburg was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Yet Regensburg does not rely on its 2,000 years of cultural history alone for its fine reputation. It is a prosperous economic centre with one of the highest productivity rates in the whole of Germany. The university has contributed greatly to this success.
