It has been four months since the DAAD London and IMLR launched the 7th German Language Competition in the United Kingdom and in Ireland. This year’s competition aimed to encourage learners of the German language to combine their linguistic creativity with their hopes and thoughts for the future. We were looking for the Wort der Zukunft and numerous entries have reached us, some even from outside our region. At this prize giving event we want to celebrate all the splendid and creative entries we received and crown the best ideas for new German words.

The prize giving event will be introduced by Susanne Frane, Deputy Head of Culture and Education at the German Embassy in London, Ruth Krahe, Director of the DAAD London Branch Office, and Godela Weiss-Sussex, Convenor of German Studies at the Institute of Modern Languages Research.

We are thrilled to announce that Friedrich Herrmann, poetry slammer and winner of the 2019 German national poetry championship will join us for this event and present a new creative piece developed on the basis of the competition entries. In addition, graphic designer and illustrator, Max Weber, will give an insight into the creative process behind the design of the illustrated dictionary of winning entries.

Throughout the event, the winning entries will be announced by representatives of the jury.
