Alumni Special Projects

DAAD/Michael Jordan

Scientists and executives from developing countries who have researched or studied in Germany receive further training (one week seminar) at a German university to update knowledge and are subsequently given the chance to attend an international trade fair or specialist forum to make contact with potential research and business partners.

Alumni of German higher education institutions are important partners for the German scientific community as well as the German economy. With the Alumni Special Projects the DAAD aims at supporting experts educated in Germany through furthering education and through providing opportunities to establish contacts with representatives of German science and economy at trade fairs and congresses.

The Alumni Special Projects are characterised by a combined project structure. First, alumni participate in a one-week summer school and/or training course at a German university. Following this seminar, the participants attend a trade fair or congress in order to update their knowledge about the latest developments and technologies in their field of expertise. Furthermore, contacts with exhibitors and potential partners can be established.

In these projects, the Millennium Development Goals create the framework for our activities. The specific structure of the Alumni Special Projects has so far focussed on six essential topics:

  • Water / Water Management
  • Food Security
  • Medicine / Health Management
  • Renewable Energies
  • Education / Lifelong Learning
  • Biodiversity

Within the UN-World-Decade of "Education for Sustainable Development", the Alumni Special Projects of the DAAD have been honored as an official project for the period 2009/2010 and 2011/2012. The projects have been granted again for the period 2013/2014.

The preparatory proceedings of these projects are such that German higher education institutions apply to organize the summer school or expert seminar. Afterwards, Germany-Alumni according to the DAC-list (PDF, 0.1 MB) can send their application to the selected institutions. A former funding by DAAD is not necessary. More information about the summer schools and application contacts can be found in current announcements.
