Dr Nelson Chanza is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Town and Regional Planning, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He has been an active academic since 2006, teaching and researching in the fields of climate change adaptation, disaster management and environmental sustainability. His knowledge contribution is largely in the area of indigenous knowledge applications in climate science and disaster management. As a member of the climapAfrica DAAD fellowship, Nelson intends to enhance understanding of climate change through local-based indicators used by communities observing and witnessing climatic phenomena. He intends to significantly contribute towards the sustainability science discourse through examining the interface between climate change and society.
